From Size 30 to 31 Inches Waist Measurement

For grading a corset, we use the same increase as has been explained for the girdle as the corset is built by waist and hip measurements, the same as the girdle. Inasmuch as this corset consists of many sections, note how the grading is being divided in proper sections.

Begin to grade as follows: Copy the center front and center back panels which are part 1 and 6 and do not grade them unless they are to be graded in length because there is no reason to grade them in the width. Therefore, copy section 2 from 1 to 2, as illus trated by dotted lines, and shift pattern in 1/8 inch from 1 to 3 and 2 to 4. Then copy the balance of the pattern from 3 to 6, 6 to 5 and 5 to 4.

Now copy section 3 from 7 to 8 with dotted lines and shift pattern in from 7 to 9 and 8 to 10, 1/8 inch, and copy balance of pattern from 9 to 11, 11 to 12 and 12 to 10.

Now copy section 4 from 13 to 14 with dotted line and shift pattern in from 13 to 15 and 14 to 16 with 1/8 inch. Copy balance of pattern from 16 to 17, 17 to 18 and 18 to 16.

Copy section 5, with dotted line from 19 to 20, and shift pattern in with 1/8 inch from 19 to 21 and 20 to 22. Copy the balance of the pattern from 21 to 23, 23 to 24 to 22. This will complete the grading of a corset to the next larger size.

In order to grade to the various sizes, follow the instructions given in the first lesson on grading.
