**The inner belt** is a garment in itself and can also be a part of a corset or corselette.
If only the front of this inner belt is desired, which is the case when it is connected to the
corset or corselette, you, may use the three front parts which are from the side seam to the
center front, as shown on illustration on opposite page. In such case, the side seam of the
inner belt would be attached to the side seam of the corset or corselette.

We shall now outline the measurements and begin to draft.

Waist .................... 44 inches Hip ........................ 48 inches Length of Inner Belt ... 10 inches |

**Before beginning to draft,** take the waist measurement in the usual way, straight across
the body as explained in the previous lesson on the maternity corset. Measure hip 6 inches
below waist line and measure length of inner belt at the side seam and center back, not at
the front. Now begin to draft as follows:

**Draw a line from 1 to 2 and 1 to 3.** 1 to 2 is waist line and 1 to 3 is front line of inner
belt. Measure from 1 to 4, 22 inches which is half of 44 inches waist measurement. Allow from 4 to 2, 3 inches for darts. Raise from 2 to 5, 1 inch, and from 1 to 7 at front,
3 inches. Take half distance between 1 and 2, making 6, and connect a line from 5 to 6
and 6 to 7. Now measure from 1 to 8, 6 inches hip length and from 1 to 9, 10 inches
full length. Measure the length of back from 5 to 10, 6 inches hip length, and from 5 to
11, 10 inches full length. Draw a line across for the hip from 8 to 10, half of 48 inches hip
measurement amounting to 24 inches, and connect a line from 5 to 10 and 11.

**Now take half of distance** between 9 and 11, making 12, and connect a line from 6 to
12, which makes the side seam of the inner belt.

**Now make front panel.** Measure from 7 to 13, 3 inches. Then lengthen at the bottom from 9 to 3 with 2 inches and connect a line from 3 to 12. Then measure from 3 to
14, 3½ inches, and connect a line from 13 to 14. Now divide the space from 6 to 13, making 15, and from 12 to 14, making 16, and draw a line from 15 to 16. Now take out from
each side of 13 to 21 and 22, ¼ inch, and lose with a curve, as shown on diagram. Take
out each side of 15 to 28 and 29, ¼ inch, and curve as shown on diagram. Take out each
side of 14 to 25 and 26, ½ inch, and curve up to 43. Take out each side of 16 to 31 and
32, ½ inch, and curve, as shown on diagram, up to 30. Divide the space between 5 and
6 into 3 equal parts. The space between 5 and 6 measures 12 inches. Therefore, measure 4 inches between 5 and 17, 17 and 18, and 18 and 6. Do the same at the bottom from
11 to 12. The space amounts to 13 inches and, therefore, measure from 11 to 19, 19 to 20
and 20 to 12, 3¼ inches, and draw a line from 17 to 19 and 18 to 20. Take out each side
of 17 to 33 and 34, ¼ inch and curve as shown on diagram. Then take out ¼ inch each side
of 18 to 37 and 38 and curve as shown on diagram. Now take out each side of 19 to 35
and 36, ½ inch and curve up to 46. Take out each side of 20 to 39 and 40, ½ inch, and curve
up to 45.

**Measure the entire waist** of all parts on top of waist line from 5 to 33, 34 to 37, 38
to b, 6 to 28, 29 to 21 and 22 to 7. Take out each side of 6 from 41 to 42, 1 inch, and raise,
as shown on diagram, at 41 and 42 about ½ inch and curve from 41 and 42, as shown on diagram, down to 44. Then take out each side of 12, ½ inch, and curve up to 44, which will
complete the side seam of the inner belt.

**To curve top part,** lower from 7 to 24 at center front, ½ inch, and curve to 22.
Curve from 21 to 29, opposite 28, and from 28 up to 42. Continue the same way from 41
to 38, 37 to 34 and 33 to 5. Raise at the bottom of the center front from 3 to 27, ½ inch,
and curve to 26, opposite 25, and from 25 up to 32 and 31, as shown on diagram. All seams
shall be allowed at all parts with the exception of the center front which, as a rule, does
not require seams.
